Wholesale underwear can help offset clothing inflation

Wholesale underwear can help retailers and households alike to keep their budgets in check during a climate of rising clothing prices.

Clothing – and underwear in particular – is an essential cost that must be met by all British households, and yet official figures show it is currently one of the most rapidly rising areas of expenditure.

The Office for National Statistics cites clothing alongside transport costs as the two major upward contributors towards inflation on the consumer prices index in May 2013.

Between April and May 2013, clothing prices rose by an average of 1.2%, while during the same period a year ago, they fell by 0.1%.

Wholesale underwear itself may have contributed in part to the rise, as unseasonably cold weather is likely to have driven customer demand higher at the retail point of sale.

However, the ONS notes that women’s outerwear drove the percentage increase higher than it might otherwise have been.

By purchasing the right choice of wholesale underwear, clothing retailers can help households to keep their outgoings manageable – while still driving a profit for themselves.

Our underwear wholesalers are able to advise you on the best options for your business, to ensure inflation does not unduly affect your bottom line.

Underwear wholesalers can cater for last-minute Father’s Day gifts

This weekend, dads across the UK will be receiving the recognition they deserve on Father’s Day, and underwear wholesalers can help retailers to cater for any last-minute present-buyers over the weekend.

Wholesale underwear is a classic ‘dad’ present, and although it is often given with a healthy dose of irony, it is still an essential wardrobe item and is much more likely to be useful than many other, more ‘novelty’ gifts.

It shows that you’ve put some thought into giving Dad something practical, rather than a mere frivolity.

And it’s a sneaky way for mums to save on the household budget, by using Father’s Day as an excuse to stock up on some new pants for their partner – courtesy of the kids, of course.

These days, many wives and girlfriends choose to treat their partners on Father’s Day, as a way of thanking them for their hard work in year-round parenting duties.

With that in mind, lingerie for Mum could prove to be an equally popular gift, particularly if you and your partner are celebrating Father’s Day by enjoying some alone time away from the kids.

Putting wholesale underwear on the festival essentials list

Wholesale underwear might not sound like the obvious retail item to benefit from the summer music festivals season, but a recent article on Fashion Bust suggests otherwise.

The recently launched fashion and lingerie newswire argues that, when preparing for a festival, your choice of underwear is as important as anything.

“While comfort is the most important factor for briefs when we’re camping, that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun with your undies,” the authors claim.

In particular, wholesale underwear multipacks could be particularly popular among festivalgoers, as they can offer the convenience of several pairs of underwear, all still handily in their original packaging.

As always in warmer weather, lightweight styles and natural fibres are likely to sell especially well, while mud-proof colours can also be expected to sell well.

With music festivals offering near-universal appeal, it’s a buying trend that’s likely to span the genders, not to mention a good range of different ages too.

For this trend in particular, we expect that you should be stocking wholesale underwear for anyone aged in their late teens, right up to those who have been going to festivals for decades, and are now potentially in their 40s or 50s.

Wholesale underwear can help Brits whose undies have gone down the drain

Wholesale underwear serves an important part of the retail market, and you could be forgiven for thinking that, as an essential item, people only replace their underwear either when they grow out of it, or when it gets past its best.

New research from the AA’s Home Emergency Response service, however, reveals that there is at least one other reason why many Britons need to replace their underwear.

That is because it is just one of the many items that some households have managed to lose down their drain.

As unlikely as it seems, some people have actually seen their underwear disappear down the plughole or round the U-bend.

The research found 1% of people have lost underwear down the drain, at an average estimated value of £4 per item.

With the UK population currently standing at just under 63 million people, that’s an estimated 630,000 items of underwear lost, at a combined value of just over £2.5 million to the wholesale underwear market.

The same percentage of people have lost socks down the drain, at a cost of £1.81 each or around another £1.14 million in total.

Underwear wholesalers can cater for diva demands

Underwear wholesalers offer a broad range of products, from everyday essentials to designer labels – and that can help to cater for top-end customers looking to indulge their diva demands.

According to figures from Quidco, the average man spends £1,632 each year satisfying his partner’s more luxurious demands, such as the desire for designer clothing, fine dining and holidays.

Women are not the only divas, however, as they in turn spend an average of £1,008 per year on similar demands from their boyfriends and husbands.

Overall, that represents a combined cost of around £2,640 for the typical couple keen to indulge their more outlandish desires.

Underwear wholesalers can help to accommodate these diva demands in one of two ways.

Firstly, some couples might prefer to keep their spending on essential clothing items like wholesale underwear to a minimum – leaving more for holidays and meals in posh restaurants.

Alternatively, of course, wholesale underwear itself can be a luxurious investment, with designer boxers and lingerie among the gifts couples often give to each other on Valentine’s Day, birthdays and at Christmas.

Keep your hat on! Gale-force winds to drive wholesale hats demand

Demand for wholesale hats could spike once again before the spring is over, as heavy rain and gale-force winds are both in the mid-term forecast for the UK.

The Met Office says strong winds are likely to hit many parts of the country before May is over, with the risk of them becoming gale-force strength in parts.

Combined with continued heavy rains nationwide, it’s likely that many Britons will be donning a cap to keep the rain off, only to watch it blow away into the distance on a particularly strong gust.

Although they might not seem like an obvious seasonal choice during the warmer months, hats remain a popular choice for keeping Brits’ heads dry all year round.

Whereas winter sees woolly hats sell in greater numbers, cooler, more lightweight alternatives offer head protection in the summer, without the inconvenience of an umbrella or the unwelcome heat of a hooded sweater or waterproof jacket.

But when that convenient cap blows away on a blustery breeze, it needs replacing – and that’s likely to keep wholesale hats in demand well into June, when the forecast predicts more settled conditions will set in.

Wholesale underwear can help retailers focus on value proposition

Wholesale underwear offers retailers a wide variety of products to suit different price points – allowing you to hammer home the value proposition at the point of sale.

According to business advice from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, it is this sense of value – rather than of price alone – that is driving many consumers’ shopping habits at the moment.

That means that the traditional brands that have been popular in the market in recent years may not hold the same level of perceived authority any more, opening up the potential to stock a wider range of products at different prices.

Richard Wallace, Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks’ head of regional business, says: “Although there may be a perception that people do not have money to spend, there does seem to be a real opportunity for companies looking to reassess how their products are viewed.”

He adds that many consumers are looking for the best possible return for their money, in light of research by Mintel that found 76% of shoppers are focusing more closely on their spending, with clothing still among the top three areas in which they are willing to buy.

With this in mind, clothing retailers must strike a fine balance between this willingness to buy and a desire for value – two intentions that can be equally well served with the right choice of wholesale underwear.

Wholesale pyjamas preserve dignity at Dudley hospital

A short hop down the M6 from our Manchester wholesalers, one hospital in Dudley is making wholesale pyjamas available to its patients as part of a new commitment to preserving their privacy – and their dignity.

The Birmingham Mail reports that Russells Hall Hospital has historically had problems with patients whose most private of areas were being exposed by loose-fitting nightgowns.

Now, however, it has invested in several new types of wholesale nightwear, giving patients plenty of options depending on how covered up they would like to be.

Among the new kinds of wholesale nightwear on offer are double gowns with fastenings at both the front and the back – removing the risk of them gaping open at any one point.

They tie at 28 different positions on the fabric, allowing the fasteners to be adjusted to suit the patient’s treatment.

Meanwhile, unisex wholesale pyjamas are ensuring that patients of either gender receive the same commitment to privacy.

This means female patients no longer have to wear gowns with dropped necklines; they can now choose instead to wear the same high-necked pyjamas as the men.

It’s evidence of a changing approach to nightwear from the NHS, and our Manchester wholesalers are ready to supply hospitals – both NHS and private – and other such facilities throughout the north-west who want to adopt a similar strategy.

How wholesale underwear can predict economic recovery

Wholesale underwear purchases are helping US economists to predict economic recovery, according to one financial commentator.

Ross Kenneth Urken, writing for business analysis site MainStreet, explains that when wholesale underwear revenues rise in the US, overall economic prosperity usually follows.

This may be because, when consumer confidence begins to rise, essential items like underwear are among the first discretionary purchases shoppers begin to make.

In particular, it is men’s underwear – where discretionary spend is more likely to drop in troubled times – that is most useful in predicting this trend.

“Though 2012 men’s apparel sales rose a meagre 1% [in the US], underwear sales shot up 13%, according to NPD Group,” Mr Urken writes.

“Even former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan has used this economic indicator to take the temperature of the economy.”

And as we all know, retail trends in the US often predict those that will occur in the following months in the UK.

With that in mind, it is worth investing early in wholesale underwear, to have the stock ready to spring when green shoots begin to appear in the British retail sector.

Further BRC figures show promise for underwear wholesalers

Any sudden swing in weather conditions is good news for underwear wholesalers, as it can mean many shoppers ‘double up’ on their usual purchases, often buying the last of their cold-weather clothing just days before temperatures rise and lighter garments are needed – or vice versa at the onset of winter.

We have been looking closely for the first sure-fire signs of spring this year, and after several false starts, it seems warmer weather and sunshine has finally set in across the country, and particularly in the north-west, where temperatures have been in double figures for some time now.

This is likely to see a substantial increase in high street footfall in April-May, as April 2012 saw subdued performance, but in 2013 it was March that suffered from cold weather and an early Easter.

April 2012 saw a 6.9% annual decrease in high street footfall, according to British Retail Consortium figures, while in March 2013 shopper numbers were down by 5.2% year-on-year.

With Easter out of the way and the weather on an upward turn, it seems likely that April and May will reverse at least some of that trend.

And with many shoppers still to stock up on lightweight underwear for summer, it is the perfect opportunity to visit underwear wholesalers and make sure your stock consists of the right garments for the incoming season.
